God will give you and Gus strength and comfort each day. (Griffin, I am your dad's cousin. Sarah is our daughter and she and Christie talked alot about music at the Beck reunion.) We experienced his power and mercy with Hannah Grace. Something we did for Hannah Grace was to get a CD player and put it in her NICU cubicle and keep music playing 24/7. She had all kinds of acappella music and classical music and even the NT being read on CD. The nurses In NICU commented about how they could tell that she was hearing it and that it was comforting and soothing to her and stimulating. I know that music is as important in your family as in ours, so let me encourage you to get Gus hooked up some of the wonderful music out there. You and Gus and your extended family will be in our prayers and we will check your web sight for updates. God be with you. We love you. Brenda and Billy Ray Dean

I also had a baby in the NICU.. I have sent many prayers your way. Especially, knowing that some doctors neglegence put my baby and I through the most challenging obsticle in our lives.. These memories are the best memories of my life..
I hope you dont mind, I'll get to the point. I have a questions for you, Did the doctors say Gus has to learn to swallow thats why he coughs and gags or does he have reflux? If he does have reflux are they providing him with breastmilk or predigested formula (Nutramigen or Alimentum) For the reflux will they do a 6 0r 12 point PCG. ( I believe that what thats called to check for reflux). Finally, are they going to give Gus mylanta or Rx to make him comfortable..
One more thing, NICU nurses are the best! I learned as a patient, you maybe able to assign your favorite nurse a Primary care nurse. (Which means when she is on shift only her or him will care for your son..) They get to know your child very well.. They are the most expensive babysitters you will ever encounter.. My final advice is sleep when your tired, and let them nurture you baby too!! So when the baby comes home your will feel rested and well.. Don't feel guilty you have been blessed with the NICU.

So, this means that you need to get all better! Not only for my selfish reasons, but because your wonderful parents want to take you home and for you to be well. Plus, I want to hold you and give you all kinds of dirt on your parents! :) Now, you may hear me say stuff about how I never want kids, etc. Please know that these words don't apply to you. You're too cute, and little Grace Meadows already has googly eyes for you. So, in short, we'll keep praying if you promise to figure out how to gag, etc. Promise? I suppose since you're only a couple of weeks old you can't really answer...I'll pretend that you did. That will suffice. I guess it will take a while for you to learn what that means. Humph. You are just as handsome as your daddy. I want you to know that you have very special Godly parents that love you very much. They are real examples of what our faith and love for the Lord should be. Our trust and prayer will continue to be that you grow and improve every day. God will answer our prayers and will continue to hold you in his hands. God Bless each of you. Greetings from Tyler, TX
Thank you for the update. We grandparent types like to know what's going on with these wonderful babies. Gus looks like he is doing well and getting lots of love and attention. I can attest that the "button" is so much easier than the long tube that you can't detach easily. When Sarah and my mom, Tressie, and I helped care for Hannah, we all learned how to do the feedings and turn the pump on and I even accidentally pulled the button out one day while Rebekah was at work and she talked me through the re-inserting of it over the phone. I did it, but when I finished, I sat down in the rocking chair with Hannah and we rocked, while I cried. Your whole family is in our prayers. We just have to be persistent. We must never underestimate the power of our prayers. Thank you so much for the update and please know that there are many of us who check daily. God be with you. We love you.

Dear Griffin, Christie, Rick and Emmadell,
One of our favorite songs comes from an Acappella CD. It was written by Gary Miller and Keith Miller and I don't think they would mind if I wrote the words for you to read. The title is "Resting in Jesus."
Chorus: Resting in Jesus, I'm resting in Him. Putting my faith in His Word, Trusting, Obeying my heavenly Friend, Resting in Jesus my Lord.
When I am weary, you refresh me, When I am worried, you relieve me, And when I'm wand'ring, you restore my soul.
When I am tested, you empower me, When I'm mistreated, you protect me. And when I am tempted, you provide for my soul.
Chorus: Resting in Jesus, I'm resting in Him, Putting my faith in his Word. Trusting, obeying my heavenly Friend, Resting in Jesus my Lord.
When I am drowning, you revive me. When I'm defeated, you rescue me. And when deserted, you replenish my soul.
When I am beaten, you defend me. When I grow bitter, you direct me. And when I'm burdened,you deliver my soul.
Resting in Jesus, I'm resting in Him, Putting my faith in His Word, trusting, obeying my heavenly friend, Resting in Jesus my Lord.
Our prayer is that you feel the strength that our Father gives you and comfort in knowing that He cares for you. We love you.

Thinking of You!
Thought you might need to read this: 1The LORD is my shepherd,I shall not want.
2He makes me lie down in green pastures;He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness,For His name's sake.4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;My cup overflows.
6Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

While we often face suffering in many ways 'under the sun' we know that if we keep faith with Him we will be reunited with innocent ones like Gus and all of those of the faith who have gone on before us. This world 'under the sun' is not all there is. In fact, it is almost nothing! While it is now all we 'know' there is so much more!
Keep the faith! Serve Him and go on living for Him 'under the sun' so that you can be reunited with Him and all who are with Him now, like little Gus.

My husband Paul and I can somewhat relate to what you've been going through. Our 6 year old son, Nathan, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in Dec. 2006. He has since had surgery to remove it, and chemotherapy. He is currently doing well, and will continue to have MRI brain scans every 3 months for the rest of this year. Satan can throw many cruel trials at us, but we know our God is faithful and full of grace and mercy. Our prayers will be for Him to give you strength, comfort, and peace during this very difficult time.
